Josette Chiang is a multimedia artist working across moving image, performance, drawing, text, installation and sculpture. Referencing geology, mythology, Chinese cosmology, and systems of measurement, her recent work is about the perception and nature of change within the built and natural environment. She creates narratives that communicate the interplay between culture, science and landscape. She is interested in exploring ways that social interaction contributes to emotional experiences of place.
Josette was born in Hong Kong and studied Fine Art at the University of the Arts London from 1999 to 2005; BFA Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, MFA Byam Shaw School of Art, and MA Drawing at Camberwell College of Arts. She has exhibited and presented performances in the UK, Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand, Switzerland.
Josette was artist in residence at Platform3 Bandung Indonesia as part of the UK/ID 2016-2018 Season organised by British Council Indonesia. Josette was the 2016 Wellington Asia Residency Exchange (WARE) Artist. Developed during the residency, her new project Coastline Paradox was exhibited at Toi Pōneke Gallery, Wellington.
